Kulturfestivalen Stockholm Wednesday 14th August 2013
Between 7 pm and 1 am on Wednesday 14th August I take part in the Stockholm Culture Festival event Silverfabriken with a flag designed for one of the flagpoles at Gustav Adolf’s torg. ”Silverfabriken is celebrating the band Velvet Underground through a concert with interpretations by the Swedish musicians Nina Persson (The Cardigans), Ebbot Lundberg (Soundtrack of Our Lives) and Magnus Carlsson (Weeping Willows). The curators Mirjam Johansson and Kajsa Pontén have compiled an art programme for the evening, which among other things takes possession of the five flag poles at Gustav Adolf’s Square through new creations by Pella Kågerman, Calle Holck, Malin Pettersson Öberg, Josef Bull and Ninna Berger. Jenny Palén makes live visuals and Erik Wåhlström is present with his portable polaroid studio. Everything is for free!”

The flag Solkronan is a reproduction of a hand-painted curtain which was part of the installation Stereoskopisk scenografi at Bonniers Konsthall in 2011. The motif is based on a photograph of the total solar eclipse that took place on June 8, 1918, when the moon at full moon passed between the sun and the earth. The fifteen curtains in Stereoskopisk scenografi reproduces prominent moments in the history of vision and observation: tools, mechanisms and discoveries that changed the way we perceive the world, but also ourselves. The piece invites for reflections on how the winding discoveries of science and technology have enabled an extended vision, but also have been limited by beliefs in their own time. Besides the flag, a slide show with more motifs from the work Stereoskopisk scenografi was displayed during the evening.
