D&Department Project Sapporo, 13-27 July 2012: Somewhere – not here
On Friday 13th July between 6 – 8 pm the duo exhibition Somewhere – not here (Facebook JP) opened at D&Department Project in Sapporo, Japan. Malin Pettersson Öberg shows the film Paris – An Orbit Portrait (2011, texted to Japanese) and the new printed work Japan – A borrowed Scenery. Hiroko Tsuchimoto equally shows two new works. The exhibition continues until July 27th and has come about as part of a collaboration between the two artists, begun in 2011. It explores properties and characteristics of the Swedish and Japanese culture, and formulates around ideas and beliefs about, and between, the two cultures; concepts and approaches to place and displacement, to traveling, tourism, exotification and cultural translations. The opening was followed by a lecture on Saturday July 14th at 14h, organized in collaboration with an open school in Sapporo. Afterwards the two artists went on a two week research trip to Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.
