Skaftfell Center for Visual Art, Iceland – residency and artist talk, August 2014
1 – 10 August 2014 Malin Pettersson Öberg takes part in a residency at Skaftfell Center for Visual Art in Seydisfjördur, Iceland, together with Swedish artist My Lindh. The residency is part of the artist-run exchange project Slakthusateljéerna + Air d’Islande, initiated in 2014 by Malin Pettersson Öberg /Slakthusateljéerna and Ari Allansson /Air d’Islande in order to facilitate artistic exchanges between Sweden and Iceland.
On Friday 8 August at 5 pm an artist talk will be given at the Skaftfell Bookshop – project space by the current artists in residence: Daníel Björnsson, Maria Glyka, Vassilis Vlastaras, Malin Pettersson Öberg and My Lindh. Most welcome!
The first exchange took place in August when the Swedish artists My Lindh and Malin Pettersson Öberg visited Seydisfjördur and Skaftfell Art Center for a residency. The second exchange will take place in December 2014, when the artists Litten Nystrœm and Linus Lohmann, both based in Seydisfjordur, will carry out a one month residency in Stockholm as part of the project. They will stay and work at the Nordic Art Association (NKF) and Slakthusateljéerna, two artist-run studio associations in Stockholm. On December 4th an artist talk will be given at NKF. The idea with the overall project is to create dynamic exchanges that require less resources and dependence on exterior funding, in order to enable more flexibility in planning and organization. In their practices, the participating artists share an interest in the emblematic image of the Nordic countries. They work with investigations of places and cultural or national identity, and explore spatial and narrative formats such as video, installation and text-based art.
