Malin Pettersson Öberg

In January and February Malin Pettersson Öberg is in residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris to complete a new experimental short film exploring the image of Iceland. Journal of Earth Sciences (2015, 17 min. HD video with sound) is a work initiated during a residency in Seydisfjordur and Reykjavik in August 2014. Through a fragmentary narrative, Malin Pettersson Öberg circles around the idea of Iceland as a mythical place with extreme weather conditions, that perpetually influences the people who try to make the island their home. A correspondence between the language and imagery used in scientific writings about Iceland and the psychological and sensible experiences of travels, exploration and solitude, permeates the work.

Journal of Earth Sciences will be screened in the Icelandic culture festival Air d’Islande at the Institut Finlandais in Paris, 6 + 7/2
Friday 6/2 + Saturday 7/2 all day: Exhibition of the films on monitors in the Café Instituutti
Saturday 7/2 at 17h: Screening and presentation of the films in the cinema of the Institut Finlandais
Video works by the visual artists My Lindh (SE), Malin Pettersson Öberg (SE) and Stephanie Solinas (FR)
