Fanny Look (Det finns ingenting vanligt i världen)
2007, wall drawing in black acrylic paint, app. 400 x 200 cm, b.w. printed essay 15 p. A5
Fanny Look (Det finns ingenting vanligt i världen) / Fanny Look (There is nothing ordinary in the world) is an exhibition I was invited to make, by curator Yuvinka Medina, at the Whyred store (Mäster Samuelsgatan 5) in Stockholm. In such a Swedish fashion temple I was intrigued to carry out a research, and display goods from, a completely different kind of trade – a Chinese wholesaler district in Paris, selling low quality children’s clothes. I built up a fictious narration around this district, situated along the street Rue du Faubourg Saint-Martin, through documenting elements of architecture, language and rumors. The result was presented as a printed essay that visitors could take, and a wall-drawing in the shop, depicting jeans display from one of the Chinese shops. This transfer, of low quality products into a fashion temple like Whyred, suggested a juxtaposition and temporary redistribution of the places within the aesthetical as well as social hierarchy.
